Dear Spirit in Business Colleagues,

Spirit in Business was founded 5 years ago as a global community of leaders and businesses who recognise that we can effectively lead organisations to higher performance and real benefit of both their stakeholders and society.

Our world needs organizations and leaders that are:

¥ purposeful, passionate, principled in their endeavours.

¥ committed to acting ethically: from their heart, creativity, aspiration and inspiration.

¥ dream and create a world and an economy that works for everyone, a more beautiful world, a fairer economy, a more creative society.

As part of SiBÕs mission we have hosted the International Spirit at Work Awards since their inception in 2002. The awards annually recognise organisations who are making important progress on their journey. This year the Awards will be part of a unique awards ceremony and conference fully focused on the companies and leaders who are recipients. We are pleased to support the 2005 awards event (details to the side).

Following our own 2004 conference in Zurich (which included the 2004 ISAW awards) we have been working to re-design Spirit in Business to make it fit for the task it seeks to undertake Ð inspiring and supporting visionary leaders in raising consciousness, capacity and performance to enable organisations which can co-create a healthy, sustainable world. We expect being able to update you on substantial progress within the next 2 months.

We are about ready to resume our work with renewed vigour and purpose. We look forward to your benefiting in your own journey by being able to link with others through our joint activities.

The truth helps when it comes to ethics issues, and PR can play a positive role

by Lisa Roner, Aug 24, 2005
from Ethical Corporation Magazine, reprinted with permission

The drive for substance behind corporate ethics claims, and the fact that many PR firms themselves have chequered pasts, may be changing the rules of the communications game... By their own assessment, public relations companies are focused primarily on delivering tailored messages for their clients.

But when it comes to managing corporate responsibility programmes, some critics argue the message can ring hollow because of PR firms' own missteps on ethics and the questionable cast of characters that often grace their clientele rosters, especially if the message lacks substance and action to back it up.

So, are PR companies a good fit for the complex and critical corporate responsibility strategy development needed by today's corporations?
